Are Tieks Worth The Price?

I’m constantly on a hunt for comfortable flats, and have tried countless brands. The latest to catch my eye is Tieks by Gavrieli. For those of you who don’t know, Tieks are an update on the classic ballet flat. According to their website, Tieks are made from full grain Italian leather, and feature a compact foldable design that lets the shoe fold to fit in a purse. I’ve been seeing Tieks everywhere lately, and from what I can tell, women love them. I was recently out shopping and noticed several women wearing them. I even asked one of them what she thought and she said they’re one of her best discoveries and she doesn’t know how she lived without them. I’ve also talked to friends and co-workers who have Tieks and they all rave about them. Despite all the positive reviews, one question lingered for me: At $175, are Tieks worth the price? I knew the only way to find out was to purchase a pair to try for myself.

Tieks are sold exclusively online, so I headed for their website to check out the boutiek (that’s what they call their online store – cute, right?). The first thing that stood out was how many colors they have!! And not just colors, but patterns, textures, and leathers. They even have a vegan line! I knew I wanted a neutral color, but I had no idea I’d have so many choices. Tieks truly has every shade of shoe you could ever want- black, white, cream, grey, brown, you name it! I wanted something that would be suitable for the office, but could transition easily to the weekend as well. My first thought was to purchase the Matte Black. After all, black goes with everything. However, after browsing for a bit, I settled on Metallic Pewter. It’s such a beautiful neutral, and I’d remembered seeing it on a coworker of mine and thinking how much I loved the metallic sheen! I placed my order and my shoes were shipped out that same day. Not too shabby, Tieks!

I’m sure I’m not the only one who anxiously checks the tracking every day to see when my online purchases will arrive and my Tieks were no different! I couldn’t wait to try them on and see what all the fuss was about. Two days after they shipped, my Tieks arrived at my front door. The first thing I noticed after opening the box was how adorable the packaging is. Tieks are packaged in a bright blue box (I think they call it Tiek Blue) and wrapped with an embellished flower box. Every pair comes with a pouch to store the shoes, a tote to store your heels after you take them off, a little card showing you how to care for your Tieks, and a handwritten note (which was my favorite part.)

Now for the shoes themselves: as soon as you take them out of the box, you know you have a quality product. They are just stunning! From the hand-stitched insoles to the buttery leather upper, Tieks are truly a work of art. I was so glad I decided to go with the Pewter pair. The color is absolutely beautiful, and I know it will go with almost everything in my closet. Finally, I loved the smell of the Italian leather! You know the one…it’s the same smell that accompanies luxurious handbags and high end leather boots. Even though I was smitten with the look of my new ballet flats, I knew the final test would be comfort. After all, you can’t wear a shoe all day if it hurts, no matter how beautiful it is!

tieks_2

I decided to take my Tieks for the ultimate trial run – a weekend conference. I was a little skeptical they would hold up the entire weekend, so I packed a pair of already broken in backup flats, just in case. As it turns out, I could have left my backup pair at home. My Tieks were so comfortable from the moment I put them on, I just couldn’t believe it. The way the luxuriously soft leather molds to the shape of your foot is simply magical. I’ve tried so many brands of ballet flats, and I’ve never had a pair fit me as well as my Tieks. They were a little snug at first, but by the end of the first day at the conference, I could tell they were forming to the shape of my foot. I kept waiting for that signature, back-of-the-heel, blister that comes with a new pair of shoes, but it never came! I think this is because the back of Tieks are cushioned, rather than elasticized. I was astonished by how many women at my conference recognized Tieks and came up to me to share their own stories about how much they love their Tieks. One woman told me that Tieks were the only shoes she could wear during her pregnancies while still feeling stylish!

tieks_3

I’ve had my Tieks for a full month now, and I have to say, I’m impressed. Unlike other flats I’ve tried, Tieks offer extra cushioning and support that keep my feet happy after a full day of wear. I receive compliments every time I wear them, and find myself reaching for my Tieks multiple times a week – so much so that my other flats are making their way to the back of my closet! A shoe at this price point needs to be a quality investment, and Tieks are just that. The company really stands behind their product, which I love, and their customer service is outstanding. I’ll be sure to report back in a few months on how my Tieks are doing, but for now I can say YES YES YES! Tieks are absolutely worth the price. I’d recommend them to any woman, and can definitively say there will be additional pairs of Tieks in my (near) future. I’d love to add a few more neutrals to my collection (basically any of the styles on this page) but I have my eye on the fuchsia as well!

If you own a pair of Tieks, I’d love to know what you think of them! Do you find yourself always wanting another pair? Leave your thoughts in the comments below, and be sure to check back for updates to my post!

This post is not sponsored. I bought my Tieks with my own money.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

  2. I am a huge Tieks fan! I own 7 pairs (and counting) and don’t wear any other flat. I mean… I use to wear brands such as Tory Burch, Chloe, Lanvin, Yosi Samra, etc., but all of them hurt my feet after a certain amount of hours (Tory Burch was the worst). When I stumbled upon Tieks I figured why not give them a try since I was already torturing my feet. But with Tieks it wasn’t torture, it was pure comfort! I couldn’t believe I could wear them all day and not have any sort of pain or aches. Hence why I bought 7 pairs and will continue to add to my collection 🙂

The colors I have and TOTALLY recommend are: Matte Black, Mustard Yellow, Copperhead, Fuchsia, Golden Glitz, Ruby Red and Taupe.

      1. Hi Christine,

I’ve always worn mine barefoot, but I know some women choose to wear them with no show socks. As far as odor goes, since Tieks are made of natural leather they tend to breathe pretty well. If you do run into issues, I know some people have had success with dr. scholls odor eaters! I hope that helps 🙂

    2. Just wondering how the sizing is for these shoes? It says to go down a size for half sizes. I’m usually a 7 1/2 and 8 can sometimes be too big so should I go with a 7 since they are form fitting? I do own some size 7s so I think that may be my best bet. I’ve never bought expensive shoes before, $50 max/pair. So I’m nervous. Thanks!

      1. Hi Renee,

I think a 7 would be a great option since you already have a few pairs of shoes in that size. Keep in mind they’ll also stretch and mold to your feet over time! If they don’t work out for you, you can place an exchange to test the larger size as well. I hope that helps! I’m so excited for you to try your first pair 🙂

  3. I’ve always had issues wearing flats because I have flat feet and the lack of support in flats cause me serious pain. It has been so challenging because I love the look of flats but have never been able to find a pair that are comfortable enough to wear all day….that was until I discovered Tieks. I now have 2 pairs that I alternate between everyday! I’m currently looking to get my third pair but am struggling to decide which ones I want next because quite frankly, I want them all!

It’s hard to say for sure since every foot is different, but I’d recommend giving Tieks a try! If they don’t work out for you, Tieks has a great returns and exchanges policy. Hope that helps! 🙂

    1. I have had 2 unsuccessful back surgeries & I was wondering how they are for your back? Also, I have a problem with ingrown toenails on my two big toes, so every pair of closed toe shoe I wear hurts really bad, except for clogs. I live in Florida, so I live in flip flops or saddles, but these look a bit more dressier & more comfy. So anyone with either of these two issues, please let me know.

      1. Hi Jill,

I’ve found my back rarely hurts when wearing my Tieks, which I’m guessing is due to the thicker outsole on the bottom of the shoe. As far as the toenail problem, I don’t have experience with that personally, but I’d recommend trying Tieks because they stretch and form to feet each individual foot and might not press against your toes as harshly (especially since they’re made of soft leather). If they don’t work for you, Tieks has a great returns and exchanges policy! Let me know if you decide to give it a go – I’d love to hear how they work out for you! 🙂

    2. I’m in the same boat! I wish I could buy the cheap cute flats at Target/Walmart/Payless, etc but I’ve wasted $ several times. I was a little reluctant to buy Tieks as I didn’t know anyone who had a pair. But we were going on a trip and I needed a cute shoe for walking (my Skechers wouldn’t cut it) so I gave Tieks a try and I am so glad I did. Took about 2 weeks to break them in but after that, luxury! Sooooo glad I took the plunge. Got a second pair for Christmas. My birthday is coming up soon too!

      1. Hi Michelle,

I can’t speak to the high instep specifically, but I know Tieks are touted as one of the better flats specifically because they work for such a wide variety of foot types. They might be worth a try for you! If they don’t work out, Tieks has a great return and exchange policy 🙂

  4. My sister and I have the same size foot, which means we have the pleasure of sharing our massive shoe collection. When I was in her closet a few weeks ago I saw these adorable little flats with bright blue bottoms, so of course I had to try them on. They were so comfortable and supportive.. and SUPER cute! So I went online to learn a little more about this brand I had never heard of. People rave about these shoes (including my sister) so I had to buy a pair for myself. I started with Metallic Gold, but I know this will not be my last purchase 🙂

  5. I COMPLETELY agree! I am OBSESSED with my Tieks. I never in a million years thought I’d be able to justify spending $200 on flats but ladies I am a convert. I had been lusting after Tieks for a while when my mom and sister surprised me with Tieks gift cards for my birthday. The combined amount was just enough for a classic pair, so I went for it! Two weeks with my Burgundy pair was enough to convince me Tieks are the holy grail of ballet flats. Believe it or not I bought another pair (Taupe) out of my own pocket less than a month after getting my Burgundy pair, because they are just THAT incredible. NO pain, NO blisters, NO aching arches, just buttery soft leather and a mold to your foot fit. I will never wear another brand of flats. Ladies, do yourself (and your feet) a favor and get yourself a pair of Tieks! Bronze is next on my list 😉

  7. Bunions? Not a problem with Tieks! Got my first pair a couple of months ago after hearing my sister rave about her pair, and I never looked back. I was hesitant at first because my bunion has been giving me trouble with closed toed shoes for years. I literally wear flip flops year round…thank goodness for the amazing weather in California. I slipped my Metallic Gold Tieks on and not an ounce of discomfort. The soft leather molded perfectly to my feet and now you can barely find me in flip flops! Perfect work shoes, perfect date night shoes, just perfect.

They stretch perfectly without getting loose and they don’t make my feet blister or swell. I highly recommend these to anyone who has had issues finding flats for their wide feet. You wont be sorry!

      1. Hi Delores,

I think it depends on the foot to be honest! I know Tieks recommends sizing up if you’re a half size and sometime go up to the next full size, or if you have a wider foot. Tieks has a really great return and exchanges policy that lets you try on pairs side by side, so I might recommend ordering a pair and seeing how they work for you! If you find they aren’t quite right, you can exchange for a different size and see which is the perfect fit 🙂

      2. I am a wider 7.5 an dI didn’t at first, I ordered down and they were fine, but I wasn’t sure. So I called Tieks and they sent me a size up at no charge. They told me to try the both out, decide which ones I wanted and return the ones I didn’t. They even provided the return packing label. Their customer service is great and they really want you to be happy with your purchase!

Having said all that, I wouldn’t go a WHOLE size up just because of width, but maybe if you are already a half size, you might want to.

After years of no luck, a coworker told me about Tieks—I took one look at the website and had a feeling these would be different. Boy was I right! Tieks are SO comfy, SO cute, and super versatile. I never have a break in period, have never gotten a blister, and my feet feel great wearing them all day long. I can wear them to work and go straight to dinner with friends after without worrying about changing shoes. I’m obsessed, and my collection has grown to 4 pairs. I’m lusting after Ruby Red Patent at the moment, I think they will be pair #5!

Customer service was amazing. during the time that I was waiting for my new pair to come, I broke my toe. I almost cried as I was in a cast for 8 weeks and couldn’t wear my new shoes. 8 weeks later, the ONLY show that I could stand to wear was my beautiful Heather Tieks. 17. What about if they get a little wet? From rain or a puddle of water? I’m a travel agent and take several trips to visit resort sites to experience and approve them for my clients. Some days we will see 5-6 in one day, which can translate to 6-8 miles if walking on sand, near pools, tile, etc. and at times, through rain and puddles. It can be very slippery. I don’t like tennis shoes as they are not stylish enough as I am usually dressed in a sundress or skirt, etc. Flip flops aren’t working, as they are too slippery when wet and I’m tired of coming home with blisters. So what is the “wet” factor of the leather? Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Kristie,

I’ve never really gotten my pairs wet, but given that Tieks are leather, my guess is that it’s not recommended. They do have great traction though, so if you wanted to test it out I would try one of the patent pairs that might repel water a bit more! Let me know what you decide to do. Interested to see how they work out!

  18. Great Tieks review. I love your new pewter pair. I’ve wanted a pair of Tieks for several years now but two things have stopped me from getting a pair. First the sizing issue and second the shipping issue. I’m a 10.5 in most flats so I wasn’t sure if I should size up to an 11 or down to a 10. But the bigger issue is the shipping. I live in Canada and therefore they don’t have free shipping and free returns. Uncertainty on the size and incurred shipping cost have prevented me from getting a pair. But great news. In less than a week I’ll be vacationing in the United States and I’m going to treat myself to a pair of California navy Tieks. I know these are “must have flats” for women but I think they’ll also work well for a guy like me.

Thanks for sharing your great review.

  19. I have seen these shoes on social media and thought I would love a pair. However, I have very flat feet and painful ankles due to the flat feet. “Flats” are not usually supportive enough for me, and there are very few types or brands of shoes that I can comfortably wear. I am wondering if any Tieks customers can speak to the issue of those who have significant foot pain and whether or not they would be recommended for someone such as myself. Thank you

My doctor insists I only wear flat shoes with proper arch support in them. If other supports are built in that’s even better. As far as I can see Tieks do not offer arch support. Is there even room to add arch support insoles into the shoe? I have no issue with the cost as most shoes with proper support actually run this price or higher. Some are actually cute. Orthotics have come a long way. Naot, Taos, Dansko, Mephisto, etc.
I really like the idea of Tieks though. The pre-arthritis me would’ve loved them.

Seeing Tieks for the first time on Pinterest, I loved how elegant they looked while still looking comfortable. I ordered a Navy Blue pair. I was concerned because I wear an 8 1/2; but they only come in whole sizes. Tieks recommended I size down and I hesitantly did so. When they arrived, I was able to wear them right out of the box without any discomfort. They were a little snug but didn’t rub or leave blisters. After wearing a few times, they molded to my feet and didn’t feel tight at all. After 6 months, they are the most comfortable shoes I own. I feel they are worth the expense because they are such a quality product and they are so versatile. I have worn my Tieks with everything from shorts, to jeans, to dress pants, to skirts and dresses. They always look great. I recently ordered and received my 2nd pair in bronze. I love the metallic shine. I would highly recommend Tieks to anyone who is wondering whether or not to try them.

My wife had seen reviews and ads for Tieks many times on Pinterest and really wanted a pair, but as a newly married couple with little income it’s really hard to justify the price. So about a month and a half ago, I figured I’d splurge and buy her a pair as an early one-year anniversary present. They came just in time for her to take them on a family trip to Paris, where her uncle was getting married, and she wore them everywhere except for the wedding, when she wore heels and brought the Tieks along to change out of after taking wedding photos. Now after getting back from the trip, she wears them all the time except when she’s at work, since she doesn’t want to accidentally damage them while working. She absolutely loves them, and now for Christmas she’s asking everyone to skip buying her gifts and instead just give her money or Tieks gift cards so she can get more! I’ve never been a guy who cared much about shoes, but these flats are so cute and my wife looks so good in them, and she says they’re the most comfortable shoes she’s ever worn. She also says they’re the nicest thing she owns, beating out the Coach handbag my sister gave her last Christmas!

Fellas, if your wife/girlfriend likes flats, do yourself a favor and get her a pair of Tieks. Yes, they’re expensive, and for me it was a lot of money to spend even for an anniversary gift. But if you can afford it, your lady will love you for it. Or if you don’t have a wife or girlfriend, get a pair for your mom for Mother’s Day. I can’t even wear these shoes since I’m a guy, but I’m a convert just thanks to my wife’s enthusiasm about them!

    1. What a great purchase for your wife,Michael. They are unbelievably comfortable. I’m a guy who can attest to that…as I have been wearing a pair of the California Navy Tieks for over two months now. Go for it and get your self a pair…your feet will thank you for it!! 🙂

      1. Barry, glad to hear there are guys also taking advantage of these amazing flats. It’s great that Tieks makes them up to size 13 in most colors so no one is left out from getting a pair. I love mine.

    1. Hi Barbara,

You can purchase a pair by visiting tieks.com/boutiek! After browsing, click on the product you’d like to buy, and it should take you to the product page. Then, select the size you want to buy, and click “add to tote” – you should see a number appear in the tote icon in the upper right hand corner! If you click there, you’ll be taken to your shopping tote and you can check out 🙂 If you have any trouble, you can always call the company and have customer service help you place your order over the phone. I’ve heard they’re really helpful with that!

This Christmas I asked my son for a pair of matte black and he obliged! I already told him that next Christmas is ballerina pink and then metallic pewter! I’m seriously considering buying a pair for my very negative sister figuring that if she seriously hates them, I’ll get them back. Time to take Tieks to a new age group!

  29. I bought a pair of chestnut Tieks, they’re extremely comfortable to wear all day long. I love them. However..the toe area and back heel area have started to show little signs of the finish rubbing off due to day to day activities like driving or walking, because the sole doesn’t extend all the way to the edges of the shoe. Has anyone else had this problem? I want to order more, but I’m concerned about this one issue. I can’t be the only one experiencing this…right?

    1. Hi Taylor,

I’m so glad to hear you’re loving your pair! I haven’t experienced anything like that with my Tieks, but I think a little wear is normal on any shoe. If you’re worried about it happening on future pairs, I’d suggest contacting Tieks to see if they have any tips for you! I’ve always had a fantastic experience with their customer service 🙂

    2. Let me just say that I have 2 pairs of Tieks and I love them, but like Taylor I have a pair of poppy Tieks that also have started to show some wear on the back heel both at the bottom where the shoe meets the sole and also at the top of the back heel where the padding is. I was really disappointed to see it because I love the color and of course they are expensive shoes. I also have a black pair and this has not started to happen with them and I wear them all the time. I haven’t contacted customer service yet, but have been thinking about it. Hope this helps!

  30. Just got my first pair of Tieks and I love everything about this company! The shoes are very comfortable, cute and great for traveling. However, I had worn them shopping all day and then to mass. When I walked into church that evening my Tieks squeaked! I’m hoping it never happens again, but it was too late to change shoes and a quiet full church was not the place to have squeaky shoes… not sure if my feet had gotten sweaty after a long day, but really don’t want to wear squeaky shoes 😦

Has this happened to anyone else? Suggestions?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Barb,

I’m so glad to hear you’re loving your Tieks! How funny that your shoes are squeaking – I’ve never heard of that before! I’m guessing it’s just a new shoe symptom, but if you’re worried about it I’d suggest reaching out to their customer service team to see if they have any tips! I’ve always found them to be super helpful 🙂

    1. Hi Diana,

Great question! I could never be described as the skinny ballerina type (and really, how many of us could be?) and I’ve found my Tieks to be wonderful. Supportive and chic, all wrapped in one! I’d say give them a try 🙂

    1. Hi Rachel,

It’s hard to say for sure since every foot is different, but I’d say give them a try! One of my favorite things about Tieks is how the elastic allows them to form to your specific foot, which makes them great for feet of all widths 🙂

  32. I love ballet flats! They are my got to for work. I’m a restaurant manager, I never stop moving. How well do Tieks hold up? Do they have traction or would I be sliding around all day?

    Like

    1. Hi Jen,

I’ve found my Tieks hold up extremely well! Unlike most ballet flats, Tieks have thick rubber soles with tiny grooves that have always provided great traction for me on all surfaces. Obviously any shoe will be a bit slippery on wet surfaces, so I would recommend running through spills in them (or any other flats!)

  33. Best shoes EVER!! I literally came upon the Tieks site from an ad on FB. I looked, figured I would never pay such an outrageous price for flats, and fell in live with all the colors. I showed site to hubby and he just said, “so try them”. But, I couldn’t justify buying shoes on-line w/out trying them on. On Christmas day, my beautiful husband surprised me with the Chestnut colored ones. He told me he went neutral so they would match a lot of outfits. Well, I LOVE MY TIEKS!! No problems, no break-in time, just beautiful, comfortable shoes!! If you’re uncertain, JUST BUY THEM….REALLY…THEY ARE PERFECT!!

  34. I have a high arch, wide foot (DD) and issues with plantar fasciitus (sp?). Would love to know if they would be comfortable. I use orthotics in my current shoes.

    1. Hi Julia,

It’s hard to say for sure since every foot is different, but I’d say give Tieks a try! One of the best things about Tieks is how they mold to each individual foot, which makes them great for feet of all widths! I also have friends who are able to wear orthotics in their Tieks, so they might be a great option for you. If you decide to try them, I’d love to hear how they work out!

  35. I have been thinking about buying a pair of these, but can’t decide because of one issue I have. Do you just wear these with no socks? I know they make the socks that are supposed to not show, but they always seem to come off of my foot, and they are very uncomfortable. Any suggestions??

    1. Hi Michelle,

I’ve never worn socks with my Tieks. I know some women choose to wear the no show socks, but they definitely aren’t necessary. I’ve never had a problem wearing my Tieks with bare feet. I hope that helps!

  36. I love the idea of folding in half for easy travel but I’m wondering if doing this often or for long periods of time will cause creasing? Any idea on how long they may last (assuming you were the same pair everyday or every other day)?

    1. Hi Lisa,

I wouldn’t recommend wearing Tieks in the rain only because they’re soft leather, but if you need to wear Tieks around water, I’d suggest going with one of the patent pairs! As long as you’re not walking through huge puddles, I’d image rain will roll off these more easily.

  37. I would love to try these but I have never before found any flat I can wear. I have severe arthritis in both big toe joints, and ballet flats tend to hit me right on that joint and cause so much pain.
Therefore I wear flip flops or sneakers year round.

Anyone else have this problem and tried Tieks?

    1. Hi Phyllis,

I can’t speak to this specifically, but since Tieks have such soft elastic and leather around the part that touches your foot, I’d recommend giving them a try! If you find they don’t work for you, Tieks has a really great return policy. I hope that helps! 🙂

  38. I’m thinking king of trying Tieks because I’m sick of replacing my work flats every couple of months. I’m curious how long Tieks have lasted for everyone?

Also, after many uses do they end up with the lovely foot odor that many cheaper flats do?

    1. Hi Sarah,

I’ve had mine for months and months and they’re holding up great! I’ve also never had issues with odor (I think the foot can breath easier in these because they’re natural leather), but if you do have issues with odor I know friends who have tried dr. scholls odor eaters and had great results!

  39. I have never been a big flats person. Had a pair of Tory Burch and hated them. Not only did they hurt, theybwere destroyed eithin a month. I am a sneakers or heels kind of girl. This past summer, i had incredible foot pain. My doctor discovered I had a cyst on the nerve of my foot. 7 months later, it is still not completely healed and i still cannot wear heels. But I work in a business formal environment, and sneakers don’t cut it. Enter Tieks. 7 pairs later…I may never go back to heels even if I can actually ever get them on my feet again. Comfy right out of the box, a great selection, and an amazing customer service department. I love the handwritten notes that come with each pair…and that it is clearly personalized. Customer experience and support counts. There are still several pair in my wish list. Even if I can manage my high heels again some day (which I hope I can), my tieks will continue to be faves!

    1. Hi Katie,

I don’t personally know any cosmetologists that have tried Tieks but I imagine they’d be exactly what you’re looking for! They check all the boxes: cute, comfy, and available in every color of the rainbow so you’re sure to find something that matches!
